4th & Alameda – Adaptive Re-Use Lofts

Risha Engineering was selected to provide complete structural engineering services for the conversion of an existing storage building to an up-scale live/work building under the City’s Adaptive Reuse code provisions.

The existing concrete, 5-story building built in the 1920’s provided the perfect stage for the change of occupancy. High allowable floor live loads allowed the new owners to incorporate all the modern conveniences and requirements of a new building without excessive supplemental reinforcement to the existing gravity system.

The project also included a new 6th floor penthouse addition. Due to the increased floor area a complete seismic retrofit was performed to allow the building to resist 100% of a current code-prescribed seismic event.
